Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Continuing our stadium check-off, we had tickets today for the game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim (aka The Big A), formerly known as Anaheim Stadium, and Edison International Field of Anaheim (The Big Ed). The game was between the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, previously called the Anaheim Angels, previously called the California Angels. Talk about an identity crisis.....

Given that this is a 60's era stadium, it is remarkably nice - fourth oldest in baseball. It was first built as a baseball park for the Angels, then converted to a multi-purpose facility when the Los Angeles Rams played there. For the Rams, it was completely enclosed with seating all around. This did not sit well with Angeles fans who were used to a more intimate setting. But the Rams left Anaheim in 1994 for St Louis. So in the mid 90's, the stadium underwent extensive renovation when it was returned to a baseball only facility, opening the outfield views once again to the hills and mountains in the distance.

The game was well attended today, but the Angels lost anyway, 6-3. We were among the few cheering for KC, as the good AL Central Division mid Westerners that we are. Angels fans are a very energetic, vocal group!

Religious signs were all around today.
