Amherst and Hubbards, NS

We are now traveling with good friends Fred and Gloria. We picked up their rental RV in Moncton, NB, and drove to Amherst, Nova Scotia. Spent just a night there. Had a fine dinner at a restaurant in Sackville, NB, called The Marshlands. (The two towns are close together but in different provinces.) This area was once farmed by French Acadians who knew how to channel the salt marsh waters to allow farming. They were generally displaced by the victorious British after a battle with the French in the area in 1755. But their enterprise (the canals and channels) can still be seen as one drives through the marshes.

We drove to Hubbards, NS, where we are currently staying. This is in the St Margarets Bay Region to the west of Halifax.

Our first drive was to Peggy's Cove which everyone coming to this area must see - the huge rocks, the lighthouse built on rock and the surrounding fishing village frozen in a time of about 75 - 100 years ago.

Today we did a beautiful and scenic drive to Lunenburg, a Unesco World Heritage Site. There are many sights to see there: the Fisheries Museum with wonderful exhibits on the history of cod fishing in the Grand Banks, the unique boat designs like the dory, the rebuilding of the fishing schooner Blue Nose II, the tall ships sitting in the harbor, the unique architecture with the famous Lunenburg Academy as the most prominent example,

and the general old world atmosphere of this charming town. The drive there was beautiful - past many authentic fishing villages where the main catch is now the lobster.

We cooked out last night, but had another lovely dinner out tonight.

Photos still not possible.
